In determining its membership, as well as its policies, recommendations or actions, the Krewe of Nyx will not discriminate against individuals or groups on the basis of actual or perceived race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, legal citizenship, national origin, income, or political affiliation. Membership shall be reserved for women who have personal and professional reputations such as they will be a credit to both the Krewe of Nyx and to those activities to which the Krewe of Nyx is dedicated.
In addition, a Magent member must be an active student woman ages 18 to 25 years of age.
Like every riding year, membership is non-refundable. If Mardi Gras 2023 is cancelled from complications due to the COVID-19 outbreak or other reasons, there may be a partial credit for the following riding year, which is unlike all other years when there are no refunds given. Here’s why: Producing a parade for Mardi Gras begins almost an entire year before the actual parade, and our organization pays a number of fees year-round in order to operate- float builders and artists, costume makers, permits from the city, deposits on venues, administrative fees (we could go on and on); therefore, we’re unable to refund any money already spent throughout the year as it progresses toward parade day. As always, however, we will do our best to accommodate our members and be as fair as possible if the unfortunate time comes.
Though we may seem like a large entity, we still operate quite similarly to other small businesses. Paying your membership dues is another way you are supporting small businesses in our city, especially now, and the best way to make sure that we still have a successful Mardi Gras. Paying your dues reach far beyond our organization alone as funds you pay are primarily being used to pay our vendors who are other small businesses in the City of New Orleans that earn their living through working in the Carnival industry.
The Krewe of Nyx in New Orleans earned the honor of being the biggest Mardi Gras parade in history. With over 3400 riders in its 2020 parade, the all-female krewe broke barriers for the Super Krewes and raised the bar for parades everywhere.
